One Neighborhood
Inspiring students with professional artists in our own community.
The One Neighborhood Project brings young people from surrounding neighborhoods of the Asheville’s River Arts District into the RAD artist studios for a variety of arts and cultural learning experiences. The program is offered at no cost to participants, and provides creative opportunities that are fresh, exciting, and engaging in ways that go far beyond conventional in-school learning experiences.
The River Arts District Business Association and OpenDoors of Asheville, the program’s sponsors, are committed to nurturing community relationships and knitting the vibrancy of the River Arts District into the fabric of its surrounding neighborhoods. Participants in the One Neighborhood program enjoy visiting with a variety of artists in their unique, culturally rich environments and learning their craft and techniques. The learning is experiential and hands-on with an emphasis on process, rather than product, allowing the participants to engage deeply in an artistic medium of their choice. The series of sessions are led by professional artists in small groups or one-on-one, with each session lasting 1-2 hours.
Tax-deductible donations to this program can be made to OpenDoors c/o One Neighborhood.
