January Minutes 2016

The meeting was called to order by President Daniel McClendon.

Minutes from the October meeting were approved.

Treasurers Report: Four businesses rejoined at the social in December and we know have a total of 40 members. There’s just over $9,000 in the bank account.

NBB: They are at the end of the construction process and are brewing test beer. The liquid center will be pouring beer by the end of March and touring will begin at the end of April. There will be an 828 weekend at the end of April that will offer tours to all the locals. They may be added to CVB signage around the city to help navigate visitors to the brewery. Amid the rumors, there is no sale on the table.

Angie Rainey & Stu Helm came to present the Asheville Coffee Expo that will be taking place behind Penny Cup Coffee on Ralph St. The event will be on Saturday, October 1st from 10am-2pm and will be a celebration of the coffee scene in Asheville and WNC. The only issue brought up was parking and they are working through those details. More information to come.

Tim Alexander from HomeSource Builders on Charlotte St wants to start a business association for the businesses on Charlotte St. He’s trying to learn how to start an association so he came to observe our meeting.

City of Asheville/Marsha Stickford: Hot Chocolate 10K run was supposed to be last weekend but was moved to this weekend due to weather. There will be rolling closures of the streets affected but if police officers feel it’s unsafe, they will keep them closed. The race starts at 8:30am and ends at 10:30am. Lyman St will be affected but most people should be off that street by 10am.

RADTIP: Designs are in the final stages and will continue through the end of summer. It will be 2.2 miles between Hill St and Amboy Rd. The project will start this time next year. You can find more information on all projects on the cities website under the City Projects tab.

Public Art Project: The new president of RADA, Shelley Schenker, spoke about turning the property on Riverside into free walls for a public decor wall for graffiti artists. The short warehouse is now slated to become a graffiti mural and there will be 40 graffiti crews during the Studio Stroll in May. They will be turning it into a mural and landscaping it to fix it up. There will be fundraising and the owners will be involved to figure out how to work together during the Studio Stroll.

Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce Business Walk: volunteers from RADBA will be going around to different businesses in the RAD to hear issues or feedback about the business climate in Asheville. If you are missed, there’s a link on the cities website for you to respond online.

RiverLink: Salon has been moved to this Friday from 3-5pm at RiverLink.

New Business/Announcements: Susanne from NBB announced that there will be a release party for two of their sour beers at Mothlight on February 6th from 6-9pm. There will also be a B-Corp Community event in Asheville on October 21st-23rd. For more information on these two events, please reach out to Susanne.

Eco Depot Marketplace will have studio spaces and include a food and drink venue. They applied to take the green space next to Glen Rock to turn into park for a place to dine or hangout.
