French Broad Cycle Classic: July 22 in River Arts District

On Sunday July 22nd, 2012 the Asheville Bicycle Racing Club will hold a series of Criterium Bicycle Races throughout the day in the River Art’s District as part of the three day French Broad Cycling Classic, on the following roads:

Haywood Road-Eastbound from the Traffic Circle to Clingman Ave & Clingman Avenue south at Haywood-Eastbound to Lyman and Depot streets & Roberts Street south from the Traffic Circle to Lyman and Depot Streets.



The French Broad Cycling Classic has a rich 15 year history and is organized by Asheville Bicycle Racing Club and sanctioned by USA Cycling, the National Governing Body for Professional and Amateur bicycle racing. This part of the three day cycling event has been approved by the City of Asheville, with all applicable permits, fees and notices given in consideration to hold said event. The roads mentioned above will be closed to traffic from 7:00am through 6:30 pm on Sunday July 22nd. If you need to access your property or need to exit your property during the event, this can be easily arranged by contacting the Race Director = Richard Dunn at 828-242-0582. The Asheville Police Department will be on sight at each involved intersection to control traffic. As well, we have scheduled an EMS unit to be on site all day should their services be needed.

Safety of the cyclists, motorist and spectators is very important to us. Hopefully, you will enjoy watching this fast paced and exciting sporting event which will include numerous National Champions and rising stars and benefit from the increased pedestrian traffic this event brings to your area.
